We continue forward on the Mega Timeline to Pokemon Sun and Moon, plus their Ultra versions. The Mega Timeline Continues… A Few Years After X and Y Pokemon took a slightly different path, where Mega Evolution is unknown."įans have therefore agreed that these remakes take place on an alternate timeline – the Mega timeline – which also features X and Y, as they both include Mega Evolution. There are a couple of in-game suggestions that an alternate version of Hoenn – the region of Ruby and Sapphire – exists, with one character saying: "A Hoenn region that's almost exactly like this one we live in. Plus, there’s the Delta Episode, which contains a new form of Deoxys. They change the story relatively drastically by introducing Mega Evolutions for the Legendary Pokemon Groudon and Kyogre. Omega Ruby and Omega Sapphire take some extreme liberties with the games they are based on – more so than any of the other Pokemon remakes. However, this becomes unlikely when you take into consideration Omega Ruby and Omega Sapphire, which introduce Mega Evolution at an earlier stage. The two games could arguably work on the main timeline, as you could argue that Mega Evolution may have only just been discovered at this late stage. Pokemon X and Y introduce Mega Evolution to the Pokemon series, which convolutes the timeline somewhat. Games: Omega Ruby, Omega Sapphire – followed many years later by X, Y (Insert Keanu Reeves “Woah” GIF here.) Two Years After That Interestingly, you can speak to his son (opens in new tab), who says: “My Dad used to have a cool job in a far away region.” And how old is that kid? Around 10 years old. His plans, though, have been put on the backburner after having a family. Remember, back in Kanto (the region featured in HeartGold and SoulSilver), there was a Team Rocket member with a peculiar way of speaking who stole the Machine Part? Well, that fella has moved to Unova – the region of Black and White – and intends to bring back Team Rocket once again. There’s also another character who appears in both HeartGold and SoulSilver as well as Black and White: a Team Rocket Grunt. By the time we meet her again in Black and White, she’s older than that, with her sprite having aged around 10 years or so. At the Battle Frontier, Caitlin’s meant to be around 14-years-old. Whether you have the memory of a Magikarp or a Mewtwo, though, you probably forgot that Caitlin actually appeared in the series before – in HeartGold, SoulSilver, and Platinum.Ĭaitlin appears at the Battle Frontier (which is, confusingly, almost identical in both the Gold and Silver remakes and Platinum, despite being in very different locations) and is said – at the time – to be one of the most important people at the establishment. Now, it’s hard to miss Caitlin in Black and White as she’s a member of the Elite Four. However, we don’t know the exact gap between games, but there are a couple of clues that can help us out.įirstly, there’s the return of Caitlin. We know – again, with thanks to Matsumiya’s social media antics – that Black and White take place next on the Pokemon timeline. You can even talk to his son who claims "Dad used to have a cool job in a far away region." Sure kid, if being on the losing side of an incompetent criminal organization is cool. This is where things get a little more confusing. particular way of speaking appears in Unova, having moved from Kanto after the events of HeartGold and SoulSilver, starting a family in the process. Bulbapedia suggests she has aged up between three and ten years, something that is backed up by another recurring character. The first clue is Caitlin, the impatient head of the Battle Castle in the generation IV Battle Frontier, who also appears in the Unova elite four. It is not known exactly how long after generation IV Black and White occur, but there are some clues. This is actually quite a nice generational split for the games, as all generation III titles occur at the same time, while all generation IV games happen three years later. Now, these games all take place during the same time period, and the events happen side-by-side, just in different regions.ĭiamond, Pearl, and Platinum come next, occurring three years later, alongside HeartGold and SoulSilver. Red and Blue were also remade as FireRed and LeafGreen. Ruby, Saphire, and Emerald brought new, strong Pokémon, a whole new region, weather mechanics, an environmental storyline, and a lot of water. This is where things start to get confusing and why it's best to forget about what came before.
